Dark Angel looks after me (Sharpie)

This is just black ink. I used a sumi brush and a regular water color brush. I love using ink. I may or not work on this more but definitely will do more ink work.

Making the final project overall I thought turned out well. The method I used to get the images worked out. Instead of taking the camera away after every time I took a picture, I should have left it where it was. Getting the pictures in the same position every time was kind of difficult but I outline where the camera was first so I knew where to place it when it was time to take a picture.

I enjoyed using iMovie. It was my first time using this application and I'm really glad that it comes with my Mac. For the most part it is user friendly so there was not a lot of complicated tasks to make the video. I was also able to manipulate the song I put in to play when I wanted it to. To make this project better, I would mainly focus on getting more consistent pictures. Depending on the subject, I would also want to explore combining all the pictures into one cool compilation in photoshop.

I took pictures of this dandelion outside of my house in one hour intervals. I used thirty minute intervals, that way I would have more pictures to make the time lapse more fluent. Also, I should have started taking pictures earlier in the morning and later in the day which would give me more pictures. I incorporated background music to make the viewing a more pleasurable experience. I took the pictures with a DSLR camera and left it on the slab of concrete was in front of my dandelion. I also using the close up setting on the camera.

This is a door that I created through Adobe Illustrator. I quite like it. The first image that I made on Illustrator was not as put together as this one. I used 3D effects to extrude and bevel parts of this image and a couple of things on the previous image that is not on this blog.

This is the rotoscope that I made on Adobe photoshop. I made it from a video that I took of my friend who lives across from me. I went through this process a bunch of times trying to do it right but I finally was able to render the video and got it on the blog. What was confusing for me was to get the just the rotoscoped images in a separate place so that they would play without the original images.

Final Project

For my final project I plan on making a time-lapse and will be working with photography and photoshop. I may have to use illustrator to manipulate photos but mainly I will be working in photoshop.

Research

For the research aspect I will look up several artists and their work to help generate ideas. I will also surf the Internet for video demonstrations to help with the manipulations that will make my piece complete.

Current position

As for right now I will brainstorm ideas to for the final project. I have an SLR camera at home that will probably be using and it has an extended lens which I might use.

Using a camera and Photoshop is the ultimate method to make people believe in the unreal. I presented presented reality in a way that you won't forget.

It seemed as thought I had limited resources but honestly everything needed to make quality pictures are pictures and creativity. I got tired of taking pictures of flowers and sunsets so one day I started taking pictures of things that I knew had potential. Finally I'm able to express them. My techniques involve using mine or my girlfriend's cellphone for taking pictures because I didn't have a nice SLR like my Mom's. A cell phone is a great tool, for it's convenience and you don't have to lug around a professional cameral all the time. The down side is that it, at least mine, doesn't have best picture quality. I only like to take pictures that nobody would think has potential.

In the beginning I took my profile pictures in my room and the bus stop. The profile pictures seemed to be the hardest because I was probably expecting to much from my self. The pencil shavings were luckily together and on top of the trash in my room, I also took the abstract profile picture in my room with my webcam. My goal was to take nice pictures without having to leave my room. It would have made a nice underlying theme. Instead for some of the pictures, I pulled them out of Facebook which worked out pretty well because I wouldn't exactly know where to start taking pictures on campus. It's easy to capture nature, but its better to take unlikely pictures that have originality.

As for the pictures, I knew drawing them was an option so I took it but this is digital arts so I saw no pressing reason to make them perfect. I tend to spend a lot of time trying doing hands on works, my focus was to get digitally creative. I never set a time to bring out that SLR I took out but when I didn't have it I'd use my phone and that would work because I experience life when I'm living it. I found the log with mushrooms behing the lake on campus. That was an example of the amazing texture that I love in nature so I had to document it. The Mario picture was taken at my work and I left all the background space because I knew something could be done with it. I also loved the reflection of myself in the water of the inlet behind my shore house.

Self Evaluation

For my overall profile, the pictures are interesting in that they say more than what they show. I like to keep things suspensful. It lets the audience use their imagination which I think is key. Life presents itself in special ways. I look at life in abstract way sometimes, this is the wandering affect. But sometimes I like to capture texture and shapes. It gives me gazing material when looking back at where I've been.

I don't know photoshop to much but I've had my fair share in high school. Browsing the internet is very helpful when I need to know how to do things or look at examples of photoshop. There has been times where I've sat in the lab during office hours and made no progress also spent time working on pictures that I couldn't even use. It gets really frustrating when I'm not coming up with good ideas for pictures but thats a problem I have, I usually over think it though.

For this picture I used the quick selection tool to separately manipulate both the foreground and background. The background was too dark and the foreground was overly exposed by the light from the camera and light above. That is me in the bleachers to the right :p. One of the photographers that our high school hires took this picture, I'm not sure of his name but I manipulated the color.

The log that harbors this fungi is the emphasis of this picture. I boosted the contrast on the log and used a photo filter for the leaves that covered the ground. Together they make, I think, a really cool feel. 

 The design and colors in this cup brought something to the table for me. I wanted to illuminate it's presence among others behind it.

 

This picture of my overly full recycling can is my demonstration of over exposed correction. I noticed it was getting over stuffed but something about the objects protruding out of the can interested me because of positive space it took up. The plastic bottles especially were intriguing because I'm kind of anal about making the most space in the can but that is disregarded here.

Haze demonstration. The white on my shoes were kind of avoidable but I used auto tone to correct this one. I like the look after auto tone because it the picture clearer. The dock plants that I'm sitting on have quite the reflexive look. 

Assignment #2

Composite Images

Me waiting for the bus to take me somewhere outside of the TCNJ bubble, preferably Boulder Colorado. The trip to Colorado last year had a surreal affect on me also my outlook on life.

I used here the close up photo and inserted a skateboarder to look like he's skating a half pipe but is actually the pencil shaving. I noticed how active the shavings looked up close so I made it come alive.

I wanted this picture to show Mario in a very unusual environment other than the ones in the video games. I took him out of the game world with a power-up to run for that will hopefully get him back. Unfortunately, this mushroom that fell out a box from the refrigerator walk is more likely to give him a virus.

Assignment Numero 1

Profile

The bus stop says a lot of things for me. I took the train to Princeton but looking in the direction of the sun as if hoping to be somewhere else.

Abstract Profile

If only I had these on in my first picture... Classic Ray Ban looking bootleg sunglasses made for a good abstract profile.

Profile Drawing

I'm deeply in need of tan. For the drawn pictures I did not want to use the computer, I felt safer just drawing them but I paid more attention to the aesthetic of the photos.

Environment

The melted snow below complements the pile of snow. To me, it resembles a glacier thats waiting to melt away almost bleeding in a way. It is the melting of the pile that saturates the concrete that struck me. 

Abstract Environment

The layer of snow on the roof of Travers/Wolfe lounge is so thin and the light shining on it make it hard to tell where it is and if it is actually a snow.

Environment Drawing

My interpretation of a snowflake. I wanted to make it look pretty radical, like on a microscopic level.

Action/Idea

This sharpener that worked so efficiently stands alone on the edge of my desk with it's reflection in the metal ruler. The elevated ledge emphasizes it importance almost like a podium. 

Abstract Action/Idea

A pile colored pencil shavings. An up close picture of the remains of the act of sharpening a pencil. The texture is what caught my eye the most and I want to have the viewer feel like they are inside the pile.

These are more abstract pictures that I took for fun. I like pushing the abstract. The more confusing an image, the more appealing it is to me. Not everything should be seen like it is in reality. It makes the boring, interesting.

Those don't look like you're average trash cans. If these aren't abstract, I don't know what is. Industry pumps out abstract objects all the time. A lot of appliances that are made catch my eye. The shower cleaning machines that are always sitting around the towers look so out of place, it's an eye sore but very intriguing.
